NE fest aims to attract Bollywood attention

GUWAHATI, May 11 � Showcasing the plush side of the �paradise unexplored�, the North East Festival would be held this time in Mumbai at the iconic Taj Mahal Palace on May 17. To be attended by the bigwigs of Bollywood, corporate, fashion, media and business sectors, the fest would highlight the best features of the region along with increasing awareness about the region in the commercial capital of the country.

�The programme, �Colours of North East� is aimed at attracting the attention of the Bollywood towards picturesque locations of the Northeast. Film shootings in the region, apart from promoting tourism, would also multiply the choices of locations for the film-makers. Another objective of this event is to encourage the use of North-eastern fabrics in Bollywood,� said Shyamkanu Mahanta, chief organizer of the fest, addressing the media here.

The event would witness Bollywood actors John Abraham, Adil Hussain and boxer MC Mary Com walk the ramp in outfits made of the North-eastern fabric. Top industrialists of Mumbai including Ratan Tata, and the Chairman of SBI would be present on the occasion.

The programme would include presentations by various State Governments of the Northeast, musical performances by the top musicians of the regions including Zubeen Garg, Tetseo Sisters, Soulmate, Guru Reuban Masangva. A Bihu performance would also be held on the occasion.

The North East Festival is organized by a leading socio-cultural trust of the North East� Trend MMS in association with the eight State Governments of the regions. The organizers have roped in leading designers of the region to design the outfit of the celebrities participating in the fashion show. The highlight of the outfits would be a fusion of traditional fabric, motifs patterns etc., and the modern designs.

�There is a lot of scope for value addition in the traditional fabric of the region. Other than making stunning outfits, the fabric can widely be used in home decoration,� said designer Dhiraj Deka. Popular designers Yana Ngoba and Garima Saikia Garg would also design the outfits in the fashion show. Last year, the festival was organized in New Delhi.
