NE development key to Indias progress: Guv

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Feb 8 Governor PB Acharya held a joint meeting with the office-bearers of Asam Sahitya Sabha, officials of universities, bank officials, BSNL officials, Post & Telegraph officials and officials of Vivekananda Kendra etc. at the Raj Bhavan here today to explore possibilities of achieving the goals of Swachh Bharat, Jan Dhan Yojana, Adoption of Villages, Toilet Movement etc.

Initiating the discussion, the Governor said, We have everything but the way that we are acting it seems that we have nothing. We must do and work in a manner towards making India a most powerful nation. We have a role to play and must set our goals and chart our roadmap and all who desire to do something must act immediately by shunning all differences and conducting ourselves in a coordinated and concerted manner.

The Governor further stressed that active bodies like Sahitya Sabhas, student organisations and universities which have immense hidden strengths and energy, must lend a helping hand towards nation building. He said that unless the North-east develops, India cannot progress and that we must think what we can do to help in this agenda.

He stated, The country can be strong if we work unitedly. All empowered bodies must come forward and lend a helping hand in the process of nation building. Participation by strong social groups must be energised. We must change our mindset.

Expressing regret about the killing of rhinos, the Governor said that despite 1,200 well-trained security personnel, We have not been able to provide meaningful protection to our State symbol. All empowered social groups should rise and raise their voice and react to save state and national assets.

Mother tongue is another subject about which we must think. We must give due importance to and ensure and encourage the use of our mother tongue. Universities should open departments of tribal dialects. We must recognise and encourage indigenous talents. We must give recognition to our own talents and encourage our own language.

The Governor further said, We must encourage the society from grassroots. Assam is the leader and she must come forward in this and take the lead. Reiterating the three Es of progress Education, Employment and Electricity he said, We must utilise all our talents and resources, which we have in plenty, to ensure proper use for speedy development.

The Governor also said that the villages must be fully empowered to make a Samridhh Bharat.

The representatives of the organisations present also gave an idea of their activities in related matters. The Governor also directed his Commissioner & Secretary to form five to six-member committees from among the representatives present to meet every month to chalk out their plans and to see what is being done.
