GUWAHATI, Nov 2 � The curtains came down on the five-day cultural extravaganza � Discover North East � with an ode to the colourful diversity of the region.
On Sunday, the last day of the festival, renowned folk artiste and exponent Dr Prashanna Gogoi choreographed more than 150 artistes from eight communities of the region on a single stage to highlight the unique diversity of the region.
The programme was organised by the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), under the Union Ministry of Culture.
�Our region is full of such wonderful dance forms. It was really a dream come true to see all these forms together on the same stage. I hope people have enjoyed it,� Gogoi said.
The Sho community of Arunachal Pradesh presented Dome Tserik, the Meitei community of Manipur performed Dhol-Dholak Cholom and Thang-Ta. The Garo community of Meghalaya stole the show with their spectacular display of the Wangala dances while Mizo dancers performed Cheraw on the same stage.
Besides, the Chakma community of Tripura performed the Bizu dance, the Limboo community of Sikkim displayed their beautiful Chabrung dance and the Ao community of Nagaland displayed the War dance. Bihu was also a part of the event to add more charm to the occasion.
�Discover North East� has been conceptualised keeping in view the enchanting and colourful culture of the North East region that deserves higher appreciation and respect. The programme that began on October 29 also featured a traditional food mela, a book mela, crafts and painting exhibition, among others.
NEZCC director Lipokmar Tzudir said that the need of the hour is to conduct more such programmes for the region and its people and take the culture of the region to mainstream India.
