By Spl Correspondent

NEW DELHI, Feb 27 Stating that the North East has tremendous potential, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that the region can become the organic capital of the country.

The Prime Minister, who was replying to a debate on the Motion of Thanks to the Presidents address in the Lok Sabha, said that he is a frequent traveller to the North East.

Stating that the NDA Government is pursuing the policy of Act East in case of North East, Modi said that he has had the fortune of travelling all over the country during the course of which he spent considerable time in the North Eastern region. Its my fortune that I have travelled so much, he noted.

During his over an hour-long speech, Modi dwelt at length on several issues, including the ongoing tug of war with the Opposition on the controversial Land Acquisition Bill.

About the North East, he said that there is tremendous scope for development of the region and it can become the organic capital of India.

I have been frequently travelling to the North East and these visits are not politically motivated, he asserted.

Had I been politically motivated, I would have travelled to a State which has 60-70 seats and not to States with one or two seats. I am not politically motivated, he reiterated.

It is my endeavour to ensure balanced development of the region. We have to think how to develop the region and put it at par with rest of the country, he said.
