NE Book Fair from today

GUWAHATI, Dec 29 � The 14th edition of North East Book Fair, 2012, organized by All Assam, Book Publishers and Sellers Association would start tomorrow at the Chandmari AEI field. The fest, dedicated to poet and litterateur Hiren Bhattacharyya, would be inaugurated by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi at 11 am tomorrow.

According to the organizers, Dr Amarjyoti Choudhury, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Tezpur University would be the chief guest of the inaugural function, whereas State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma would be present as a distinguished guest.

Noted social activist and Booker Prize winner writer Arundhati Roy would be present at the book fair premises for an interactive session from 4 pm to 6 pm.

The book fair concludes on January 10. The organizers have planned to dedicate each day of the fair to a specific cause and a number of scholars, litterateurs have been invited from Assam and other parts of the country for interactive programmes in the fair premises. The pavilion of the book fair has been dedicated to publisher Debananda Baruah and former chairman of The Assam Tribune Group TG Baruah.
