NDFB (P) plea to maintain peace

By Correspondent

TEZPUR, July 27 The NDFB (P) has expressed deep concern over the killings and arson in Kokrajhar, Chirang and Dhubri districts where people of two communities have been victimised.

The outfit, in a press release, condemned the incidents in which large numbers of innocent people have been killed and thousands have been rendered homeless. This kind of communal clash does not bring any good to the society. We urge the people of all the communities to keep restraint and tolerance for peace and harmony of the society and the region, it said.

Some agents of the State Government have been hatching conspiracies from time to time to crush the very identity of the sons of the soil by instigating one community against the other, the release alleged. The ongoing clash is a part of it. The Bodo people, the sons of the soil, have every right to live with their distinct identity in their inherited land and for this, they are in a struggle in demand of a separate State. Their struggle is against the Government of India. Their movement is peaceful and democratic, which is legitimate and Constitutionally justified. The Bodo people have no ill feelings against any other communities; rather they want to live in peace and mutual understanding with equal rights and equal status.

The release further alleged that the State Government has been biased in the distribution of relief and deployment of Army and paramilitary forces. The affected Bodo people, who are in relief camps, have been given nothing in the name of relief even after days of the clash. The Bodo villages in vulnerable areas are still sans guards. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has failed to save the lives and property of the citizens. Due to insincerity, indecisiveness and cowardly acts of the State Government, several lives have been lost, the release added.

The outfit appealed to the organisations and people of different communities to refrain from all kinds of destructive activities.

The NDFB (P) also called for the Central Governments direct intervention into the matter by deploying adequate military and paramilitary forces in every corner of the sensitive areas to provide adequate relief and rehabilitation to the affected people.

The organisation has urged the Central Government to provide adequate compensation to the bereaved families and the injured persons. The outfit has also demanded imposition of the Presidents Rule in Assam for confidence building among the people of different communities with effective and efficient administration because the people have lost confidence in the present State Government. It also demanded drastic action against the miscreants involved in the clashes to contain the situation. The press release was issued by S Sanjarang, Information & Publicity Secretary, NDFB (P).
