NDFB leader nabbed in Garo Hills

By CORRESPONDENT

TURA, Feb 18 A senior militant belonging to the anti-talks faction of the Assam- based militant outfit NDFB has been arrested by West Garo Hills police from Selsella area on Thursday night following intelligence reports.

Rupasing Phaklary, a self-styled second lieutenant of the Ranjan Daimary group was picked up from his girlfriends house in Balachanda village of Selsella just before midnight and taken into custody. No weapons were recovered from his possession.

During interrogation he revealed that he belonged to the September 2005 batch of militants who received training at the NDFB camp in Khagrachari deep inside Bangladesh. The NDFB chief Ranjan Daimary also visited Khagrachari camp during the training, he revealed.

He crossed over to India in October 2009 and was sent to Karbi Anglong to help the outfits cadres there. He came to Garo Hills in the beginning of 2010 where he met his girlfriend from Balachanda village after a long chat on the mobile phone.

He claims that the outfit initially used to pay him and other cadres on regular basis but the funding dried out gradually which forced him to leave Karbi Anglong and head to the Garo Hills.
