By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 9 The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) launched its movement against corruption in the State with all its top leaders like Janata Dal (U) chief Sharad Yadav, Anand Rao Adsul of Shiv Sena, Akali Dal general secretary Chandumajra and BJP leaders including its party president Nitin Gadkari and senior leader LK Advani making public appearance at a rally held here on Sunday.

The senior leaders while lauding the courage of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) in bringing to light several instances of corruption perpetrated by a few Assam Ministers, challenged Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to publicly clear his stand on the KMSS's latest allegation against him.

It needs to be mentioned here that KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi has accused Gogoi of owning five houses in the US and the NDA leaders described this as reflective of the trend of 'loot' set by the Congress regime.

The rally which is seen as a significant development for the State BJP anticipating major poll gains in the coming Assembly elections was attended by former president of the BJP Rajnath Singh, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley as well.

The NDA directly targetting UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi said that she has been trying to safeguard those allegedly involved in the recent scams including the 2 G and Commonwealth Games that has brought shame upon the country. "The 2 G scam is one of the biggest in the history of fund misappropriation and we insist upon Sonia Gandhi to make a public statement on the issue of corruption and the allegations hurled against her as well," said Rajnath Singh.

Singh while appealing to the North East to support its fight against corruption and price rise, assured the people of the region that corruption would be eliminated and prices would be brought under control when it gets back to power at the Centre. It also called upon the people of the State to vote for change in the coming Assembly elections.

Senior BJP leader LK Advani in his address said that Congress and corruption was synonymous and one of the prime reasons for the skyrocketing prices of all essential commodities including food grain that has pushed the common men almost to the point of starvation was the characteristic corruption of the successive Congress regimes. He further said that the war against corruption initiated by the NDA will be converted into a peoples movement. "There is so much black money in foreign banks that if it is retrieved the economic condition of the country will change totally," he remarked.

Advani also mentioned infiltration in Assam as a major issue and observed that the centre has to play a proactive role in addressing this problem.

The rally which slammed the Congress for wrong economic policies and bad governance urged all like minded forces in the region to unite and demand for a resolution to the issue of infiltration.

Nitin Gadkari while urging the people of Assam to support the BJP in the Assembly elections said that the party will ensure social and economic equality, eradicate poverty and generate employment opportunities on getting the mandate of the people.
