NEW DELHI, Dec 3 - The National Commission for Women (NCW) will support the Northeast livelihood programmes for women, particularly for those in younger age group, through skill development and specialised training.

This was decided at a meeting between Union Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Dr Jitendra Singh and the newly appointed member of the NCW, Soso Shaiza, who called on the minister here today.

Dr Singh said the NCW can supplement its efforts and resources in carrying forward several of the women oriented projects, already undertaken by the DoNER Ministry and the North Eastern Council (NEC). In this regard, he made a special mention of a number of self help groups of women doing commendable work in the region.

Dr Singh informed Shaiza that the construction work of an exclusive hostel for girl students from the Northeast in the Bangalore University campus is almost complete and the entire project has been funded by NEC.
