NCP backs Nagaland legislators move

By Correspondent

DIMAPUR, July 27 The Nagaland unit of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has extended support to the Joint Legislators Forum (JLF), Nagaland, in their endeavour to jointly apprise the Government of India to expedite the peace process towards finding an honourable settlement to the Naga political problem.

Interacting with a section of the media, secretary-general of NCP North East Coordination Committee and State party president Neiba Ndang said the State NCP has all along appealed to all political parties in Nagaland to apprise the Centre for settlement of the Naga issue.

All the 60 legislators of the Nagaland Assembly, both ruling and Opposition, had on July 19 decided and resolved to pave the way for an alternative arrangement in the event of a logical conclusion to the ongoing Naga peace process, whereby all legislators affirmed to give up their present positions.

In fact, this (decision of the JLF) should have been done long back, the NCP leader said.

Ndang also appealed to all Naga underground groups to unite to fight for the same cause.

Ndang also welcomed the recent move and initiation of the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) for clean and fair elections. He felt that Nagaland, as a Christian State, should abide by the NBCC slogan and that election process should be free from corruption, money and muscle power and booth capturing.

The NCP leader said NBCC should implement its slogan in letter and spirit and try to rope in all associations and churches under its banner for effective implementation of the slogan.

I see no reason why the programme should not be successfully implemented if all the churches take up the issue and ask all members to sincerely adhere to the proposition, Ndang said. He was of the opinion that the slogan could be successfully implemented as all Nagas are Christian.
