HAFLONG, Jan 19 - Elections for the 12th North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) concluded peacefully today. Around 75 per cent voter turnout was recorded till the time of filing of this report and the percentage is expected to further rise. Information from very remote areas including Jinam, which is more than 12 hours travel from the district head quarter, is yet to be received.
Ballot boxes from around 15 polling stations will reach tomorrow due to their remote locations. Polling in all the 28 constituencies was held peacefully and hte need for repolling will be decided, once the polling officials reach the headquarters.
The election results will be declared on January 22.
Repoll demanded: An Asom Gana Parishad candidate, Moril Masa has demanded repolling at Jatinga ME School polling station of No 2 Jatinga Constituency suspecting irregularities in voting by some people.
Masa alleged that Flaming Shyla Rupsi, an independent candidate from Jatinga constituency and also the gaonburah after entering the polling booth closed the door of the polling station from inside and what he did inside no one can imagine, and which is totally against election rules.
More over, one female election agent of AGP was allegedly beaten up by sticks and also threatened by the volunteers of Rupsi. Masa requested the authorities to take stern action against the perpetrators of such crimes. External Siangshai, BJP candidate from no 2 Jatinga constituency also alleged that there was booth capturing and condemned the incident.
Flaming Shyla Rupsi however denied all the allegations and said this was not a serious issue and was solved amicably.
