NCC seeks land for academy in Meghalaya

SHILLONG, Sept 29 - The National Cadet Corps (NCC) today sought land from the State Government to set up an NCC Academy in Meghalaya.

Additional Director General, North East Region Directorate, Major General, SPS Kohli, speaking at the conclusion of a two-day seminar here conducted by NCC, made the request to the State Government.

The seminar was organised to tap the potential of the students in the overall development of youth in the State and �enable them to increase their contribution towards nation building and joining the Armed Forces�.

Major General Kohli said the NCC Academy would help in conducting NCC camps and other training activities of the NCC cadets. He also brought out the aspect of expansion of NCC in Meghalaya to �increase the footprint of NCC in remote areas and border districts� of the State.

The two-day seminar brought together several heads of educational institutions, the Associate NCC Officers and others officials related to NCC from all over the State.

Meanwhile, the Central Government is considering making NCC as an elective subject in schools and colleges across the country.
