NC Hills scam: AGP seeks wider CBI probe

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, June 28 Members and supporters of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) today staged demonstration in the district headquarters of the State and sent memorandums to Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister demanding that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) be entrusted with the responsibility of investigating into the entire gamut of financial irregularities in NC Hills Autonomous Council. The AGP also protested the increase in prices of petroleum products.

AGP spokesman Atul Bora said that in the memorandums to the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister, the AGP alleged that though under public pressure, the Government was forced to order a CBI probe into the financial scam in NC Hills Autonomous Council, only a limited mandate was given to the Central investigating agency. The AGP demanded that the CBI should be allowed to investigate into the entire scam involving all the departments of the council.

Bora said that the AGP has already submitted a memorandum to the State Governor in this regard and asserted that the movement by the regional party would continue till the scope of probe by the CBI is widened to cover all the departments of the Council. He said that in the next phase of movement, members of the AGP would bring out torchlight procession in all the district headquarters of the State in the evening of July 5.
