UDALGURI, Jan 4 - Nabajyoti Baruah, a well-known nature activist hailing from Kalaigaon of Udalguri district has been invited by the National Foundation for India (NFI) under the Ministry of Security and Justice of Government of India for the NFI Award for 2016-17 to be presented to him on March 2 next in New Delhi. Baruah is one of the eight selected representatives from across the country selected by the NFI for his commendable service in the field of �man-elephant conflict� issue in Udalguri district and his contribution to raise the voice for the protection of wild elephants and safety of human resources. It is to be noted that Baruah is the first person from the State to receive such an honour on the national level by the NFI which carries a citation and a cash amount of Rs 50,000.
Talking to this correspondent today here at Udalguri, Baruah outlined his future projects which are based on themes like protection of wild elephants across the Indo-Bhutan border which naturally falls under the �elephant corridor�. He hoped that his project to be submitted to the Union Government would draw attention to protect the �elephant corridor� throughout the State. He also expressed his satisfaction over the information of his selection for the national award and observed that he would dedicate his life for the purpose and the award was recognition to his service.
It is to be noted that Nabajyoti Baruah has been relentlessly dealing on the issue of �man-elephant conflict� in Udalguri district for the last ten years and till date he has published a good number of articles on the issue in various vernacular dailies published from the State and also brought out a visual documentary on the theme in 2014.
Meanwhile, the Udalguri district committee of Aranya Suraksha Samiti, Asom congratulated Baruah for his achievement and hoped that the organisation would be inspired by his selfless service for the preservation of flora and fauna of the region. This was stated in a press release of the nature-based organisation issued by Sarat Baruah and RR Sapkota, president and secretary respectively.
