National Youth Parliament Festival at city college

GUWAHATI, Feb 1 - National Youth Parliament Festival, 2019 was hosted recently by Karmashree Hiteswar Saikia College here which was selected as the nodal institution among the Kamrup (M) colleges by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, said a press release issued here today.

The festival, held in two phases, included walk-in screening and District Level Youth Parliament.

The District Level Youth Parliament was inaugurated by the Principal of the host college Dr Sikhamoni Konwar. In her inaugural speech she thanked the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports for giving the college the opportunity to host this prestigious event. She also urged the youths to take part in nation building activities and join hands to expedite the process of socio-economic development of the country.

More than fifty student participants from different colleges of Kamrup (M) took part in the festival. In their deliberations in the mock parliament speech competition, the students expressed different views on issues like terrorism, economic development, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

The jury members of the youth parliament were artist Madhusudan Das, retired police officer Ujjal Baruah, assistant professors Dr Mrinmoyee Baruah and Dr Anup Kumar Deka and social worker Bhaskar Jyoti Das. The programme officer of the college�s NSS unit Dr Nurul Islam coordinated the entire event.
