National Postal Week celebrations from today

GUWAHATI, Oct 8 - The National Postal Week will be celebrated from October 9 to October 15 in Assam along with the rest of the country.

As part of it, the Assam Postal Circle will organise a series of activities during the week, BB Dave, Chief Postmaster General of Assam Circle told reporters here today.

�The purpose of National Postal Week is to create awareness about the role of India Post in peoples� lives and its contribution to the social and economic development of the country. The celebration is aimed at generating a broader awareness about India Post�s role and activities among the public and media,� Dave said.

As per the schedule, the Assam Postal Circle will organise Post Forum meetings, visit of school children to post offices and workshop for staff on soft skills on October 9.

This will be followed by celebration of Savings Bank Day and holding of Savings Bank camps to encourage people to open Post Office Savings Bank Account on October 10.

On October 12, there will be workshops for children and visit of school children to post offices.

October 13 will be marked as Philately Day and drive will be undertaken to open Philatelic Deposit accounts, while October 14 will be celebrated as Postal Life Insurance Day.

The week-long celebrations will conclude on October 15 with holding of the Business Development Day which will witness meetings with current and potential customers at circle, regional and divisional offices, Dave added.
