DIBRUGARH, Jan 24 - National Girl Child Day was observed by North East Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses (NESPYM) in association with CHILDLINE at Amolapatty Girls High School here today.
Madhumita Sonowal, Birinchi Dutta and other team members of CHILDLINE discussed issues concerning the safety and security of the girl child, particularly child marriage and sexual abuse. The programme was attended by the students and teachers of the high school, a release stated.
The risks posed by the use of mobile phones and misuse of internet, was presented by Monalisa Bora of Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission, Borborooah block. The risks and vulnerabilities of child labour among the girl child were discussed by Sagarjit Gogoi, programme associate of NESPYM. The participants also had an interaction with the resource persons.
The programme was inaugurated by Sewali Medhi, headmistress of the school. National Girl Child Day is celebrated on January 24 to improve the overall status of the girl child and for their empowerment.
