National Girl Child Day 2021 was celebrated under the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ (BBBP) scheme at the Sonapur District Hospital today.
The programme was organised by the Kamrup Metro district administration and the district social welfare office in collaboration with the health department, Kamrup (M) and supported by the District Level Centre for Women, Kamrup Metro.
The programme began with felicitation of a newborn baby girl with her mother and plantation in the name of the girl child on the hospital premises.
On the occasion, frontline workers were felicitated for their work during the pandemic. Health officials, ASHA members, ANM members and felicitated frontline workers shared their experiences and expressed willingness to promote the BBBP scheme including creating awareness about the worth of the girl child, at the community level.
During the programme BBBP leaflets, stickers, etc., were distributed among the participants. There were around 100 participants present in the programme including district officials of social welfare department, CDPOs, supervisors, officials of health department, doctors, ASHA, ANM, etc.
Meanwhile, as part of the programme, a plantation drive in the name of the girl child was organised at all the anganwadi centres of the district.
