By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 20 - The National Energy Conservation Week 2020 celebrations organised by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) concluded here today. The week-long event had started on December 14.

NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Subhanan Chanda said the main aim behind organising the event was to create awareness among the people about the importance of energy as well as saving or conserving the precious resources by using less energy.

Various programmes and activities were organised throughout NFR during the week to propagate the message about the need for energy conservation in our day to day life for the benefit of the society.

Posters and leaflets were distributed on the topic and flex and banners were displayed at all prominent places. Street plays were organised and an audio campaign was launched in all the five divisions of NFR and at NFR headquarters at Maligaon.

Drawing and painting competitions were also held at different locations, which witnessed the participation of a huge number of school children.

Cash awards and certificates of merit were also given on the occasion.

It may be mentioned that the Energy Conservation Act was executed by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) after passing of the Energy Conservation Act by the Centre in 2001. BEE is a constitutional body under the Government of India which helps in the formulation of policies and strategies for reduction in energy use.

National Energy Conservation Day in India is celebrated to make people aware of the importance of energy and its conservation.
