National award for State NGO

NAGAON, Oct 23 - The National Vayoshreshtha Samman, 2015 was conferred on a State NGO Gram Vikas Parishad (GVP), of village Rangaloo, in the category �Best institution for providing services to senior citizens and awareness generation� by the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, at a function held on October 1 last in New Delhi.

The GVP under the leadership of its secretary Sirajuddin Ahmed has been working for the downtrodden people of the State for the last three decades. It is working in the field of education, health etc. It is also running an old-age home at its HQ Rangaloo. It has also provided old age pensions to the needy people from its own funds.

To felicitate the secretary of GVP, SU Ahmed, a function was organised recently under the aegis of the NGO �Forum�. The meeting was addressed by ADC, Junu Das Saikia, retired social welfare officer Chidananda Nath, well-known actor Jnanda Bora, social welfare officer Sangeeta Bortha-kur and others. Retired Inspector of Schools, Prem-eshwar Das chaired the meeting.

Balladev Sharma explained the significance of the programme, while Diganta Bhagawati offered the vote of thanks.

It may be mentioned here that the GVP won the National Youth Award in 2007 and the National Child Welfare Award in 2014.

Accepting the felicitation, SU Ahmed thanked �Forum� and hoped that all NGOs will work together for the development of society.
