JORHAT, March 19 � Delivering his lecture on �Science in India�, at the North East Institute of Science and Technology (NEIST) on the occasion of its 54th foundation day on Wednesday here, Bharat Ratna and Linus Pauling Research Professor CNR Rao said that the nation needs more good research institutes with advanced equipment and brilliant manpower to progress in the field of science, without which no country can develop.
According to him, India has to work fast in order to keep pace with the global research.
During his short visit to the institute, he inaugurated the SS Bhatnagar building for advanced analytical facility at CSIR-NEIST. Earlier, he had interacted with the scientists of CSIR-NEIST immediately after his arrival on March 17 at Dr MS Iyengar Hall and advised the scientists to upgrade their research to solve global issues related to energy and environment along with solving problems of the region.
The foundation day programme of CSIR-NEIST was attended by a galaxy of eminent scientists, citizens of the town, students, teachers and most of the members of the institute.
Dr D Ramaiah, director of CSIR-NEIST felicitated the Bharat Ratna and the guest of honour with traditional gamocha and bouquets of flower. He also introduced the chief guest and guest of honour to the audience. On the occasion �Highlights 2014 � 2015�, the major activities of CSIR-NEIST during the period was inaugurated by Professor CNR Rao.
The members of the staff, who superannuated during the year 2014 � 2015 were given token felicitation for their services rendered for the growth and development of the institute by Professor CNR Rao and it was coordinated by Jyotirmoy Bhuyan, SO, CSIR-NEIST.
In the celebration function, certificates of appreciation were awarded to staff members who excelled in their performances and rendered exemplary services in their respective fields during the year 2014-2015 by the Director. The programme was coordinated by Probin Borua.
