Namami Brahmaputra festival at Morigaon

MORIGAON, March 25 - The Morigaon district administration is gearing up its administrative machinery to make the �Namami Brahmaputra� festival a grand success to be held at Hiloikhunda, Mayong in Morigaon district with a five-day programme from March 31 to April 4.

The advisory committee�s meeting of the Namami Brahmaputra festival, Morigaon was held at Deputy Commissioner�s conference hall on March 24. Hemen Das, DC, Morigaon while giving details of the cultural programmes, said that Namami Brahmaputra festival at Mayong in Morigaon district will be celebrated in a different way. The programme will start on March 31 with the Brahmaputra Pujan at 9 am. The main Namami Brahmaputra festival of Morigaon district will be inaugurated by Rajen Gohain, Union Minister of Railway for State at 10am on that day, said DC, Morigaon. This will be followed by an exhibition to be opened by Rama Kanta Deori, MLA, Morigaon. The door of �Mayabi Mayong�, the fair of local costumes will be inaugurated by Piyush Hazarika, MLA, Jagiroad.

As per the programme, Morigaon Zila Sacha Mela (cleanliness drive) will be held at 11 am. At 12:30 pm, a live exhibition of indigenous, tribal culture will be presented, the DC, Morigaon added. On April 1, a school students� meet will be held where 880 students will start a cleanliness drive. Afterwards, the competitions on borgeet, lokageet, recitation and painting will be held among the school children. In the evening that day, Meghnath Badh, a children one-act play will be performed by Jagi Auniati Sakha Satra and the drama Kainakanda Sil will be staged by the Rangalaya, Nagaon.

On April 2, a youth festival (Yuva Samaroh) will be held where hundreds of youths from five blocks of Morigaon district will participate in various cultural and sports events. In the evening, play Sakunir Pratisudh will be staged by Sachipat drama group of Morigaon town.

On April 3, the Mahila Samaroh (Women�s meet) will be held where cultural programmes will be presented by Madhurima Choudhury and her troupe.

On April 4, the Morigaon district Inter College Youth Festival will be held where there will be extempore speech and debate competitions.

In the concluding session, Hrishhikesh Goswami, media adviser to the Chief Minister will release the souvenir of the festival. The cultural show by youths will include Bhur Tal Nritya, Jeng Bihu etc., informed Ananta Gogoi, in-charge ADC of the festival in Morigaon district.
