Namami Brahmaputra a big push to States prospects: Ramdev

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, April 3 - A hailstorm that lashed Guwahati on Monday evening created chaos at the ongoing Namami Brahmaputra festival.

Yoga guru Ramdev and Union Minister Babul Supriyo participated at an event organised in the evening, which was delayed by nearly two hours.

Though Ramdev was scheduled to address people at the Pragjyoti ITA Centre after visiting the venue at the Brahmaputra banks, the programme was cancelled and spectators who had gathered at the centre were asked to move to the venue at the last minute.

Addressing the crowd at the open venue at Kachamarighat, the yoga guru heaped praises on the Assam Government and said it was doing all it can to put the State among the most developed states of the country.

Though my birthplace is Haryana, I started working from the Northeast. I am committed to work for the development of Assam. In the next five years, we will invest in education, health, gaushalas, etc., and create employment opportunities. Our factory at Tezpur has already started production within just a few months of commencement of the project. If we work together, we can achieve it, he said.

He said Assam has all the qualities and history behind it to march ahead and the Namami Brahmaputra festival will give a big push to the States prospects.

He also exhibited several yoga asanas to the delight of the audience, making Union minister Babul Supriyo, who was also present, join him in the asanas.

Supriyo, who did not make any speech due to inclement weather, sang a few couplets from his popular Hindi film songs before the hailstorm hit the venue at around 7:30 pm. Crowd at the venue thinned as the visitors ran for cover.

There was an encouraging crowd in the morning hours as the weather was relatively clement.
