Nalbari offices functioning minus permanent officials

NALBARI, March 13 - While the BJP dispensation at Dispur is often witnessed raising slogans of development and change in the State, a good number of offices in Nalbari district are functioning without permanent officials since quite sometime now.

The Nalbari district unit of All Assam Students� Union (AASU) on Monday submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Nalbari demanding appointment of permanent officials in such offices.The memorandum issued by its president Gunajyoti Pathak and general secretary Akshay Deka said that the common people have been facing a lot of problems due to absence of permanent officials.

The AASU unit also submitted a list of offices that were functioning without officials to the Deputy Commissioner.According to the list, the Nalbari Swahid Mukunda Kakati Civil Hospital has no Deputy Superintendent and similar is the fate of Chamata PHC, Ghagrapar PHC and Makhibaha Model Hospital.

A chaotic situation is also seen prevailing in the office of the Education Department in Nalbari district.The Inspector of Schools is presently holding charges of four offices.In addition to his parent office, he is also acting as the District Elementary Education Officer (DEEO), Deputy Inspector of Schools (DI ) and District Mission Coordinator (DMC). Further, he is also holding the charge of Headmaster of two high schools.

Health and Education are not the only departments running without permanent officials. A similar condition exists in the Social Welfare Department too. The integrated child development projects of Nalbari, Paschim Nalbari, Ghagrapar and Mukalmua have no permanent officials.Besides, the Nalbari District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) is also functioning without a permanent Project Officer.

Similarly, the Digheli Development Block office also has no permanent BDO so far. Such a situation has adversely affected development initiatives within the district.
