NALBARI, May 17 - Nalbari Deputy Commissioner Bharat Bhusan Dev Choudhury on Wednesday inspected the erosion-affected sites and embankments that are under construction in Nalbari district and took stock of the progress of anti-erosion work.
As the massive erosion caused by different rivers in the district has become a serious problem, the Deputy Commissioner, along with officials of the Water Resources department, first visited the erosion-hit site of Ultakhanda channel at Gorber village under Banekuchi revenue circle. The heavy erosion caused by the river is posing serious threat to the family of one Bhabesh Sarma of the village.
The Deputy Commissioner later went to Shialmari village where construction of a bundh is going on at a cost of Rs 1.60 crore.
The bundh of Mora Pagladia river was breached at three places last year. Construction of this bundh is going on but is yet to be completed though the monsoon season is knocking at the door.
Finally, Dev Choudhury visited Lanka area where the embankment of the Mora Pagladia river was breached last year. A reconstruction scheme at a cost of Rs 95 lakh under the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF) is going on. However, the deposition of geo bags is yet to start in that place.
Talking to this correspondent, the Deputy Commissioner said that during his visit, he verified the quality of the anti-erosion work, and directed the officials to complete the work as soon as possible. The Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by Pratul Patowary, executive engineer of the Water Resources department.
