Nalbari DC beautifies Gurdon HS School pond

NALBARI, Aug 14 - A historic pond of Gurdon HS School was beautified and renovated by the Deputy Commissioner of Nalbari, Bharat Bhusan Dev Choudhuri recently. The pond, which was used as a dumping ground, has become a swimming pool for some. As part of the three-day Independence Day celebrations, the district administration on Tuesday released indigenous fish seeds in the pond. The MLA of Nalbari LAC, Ashok Sarma formally released the fish seeds.

Addressing the meeting, the MLA announced a grant of Rs 2 lakh to construct a wall on the north bank. Deputy Commissioner, in his speech, said that he has been trying to make the �Gurdon pukhuri� as a spot of attraction so that the visitors can enjoy the beauty of the pond. �The district administration has taken steps to clean up famous Tinikoniya pukhuri and Hatkhola pukhuri of the town,� he said.

On the occasion, the MLA and the Deputy Commissioner planted trees in the campus of the school. A streetplay on drugs abuse was also performed.
