Najma lauds petroleum conservation initiative

IMPHAL, Jan 16 - Manipur Governor Dr Najma A Heptullah on Monday said the initiative taken up by Petroleum Conservation Research Association by involving young children is a good step in safeguarding their future. March of human progress has been extensively linked with the wealth underneath the earth�s surface, she added.

The Governor was attending the inaugural function of Saksham 2017, a month-long conservation cum festival held here under the theme �Conservation of fuel is responsibility of one and all in society.�

Dr Heptullah also administered a pledge to participants to conserve petroleum products, endeavour to educate young people to avoid wasteful use of petroleum and use cleaner fuels for environment protection.

Manipur Chief Secretary Oinam Nabakishore Singh said that the State Government is targeting to generate 50 MW power by 2022 to fulfill all energy needs. Dr Heptullah also flagged off a �Walk Rally� attended by students, officials, traders and dealers. The month-long festival observed across the country will conclude on February 15.
