By Correspondent

JORHAT, Feb 20 Lui-Ngai-Ni, the seed-sowing festival of the Nagas living in Manipur, was celebrated here at Eastern Theological College campus on Wednesday with a well-charted-out programmes.

This is for first time this festival is celebrated outside Manipur. Since 1987, the festival has been celebrated as one of the popular and common festivals by more than 20 Naga tribes in Manipur every year.

Taking part in this ceremonious occasion, Prof Shimreingam Shimray said, The philosophy behind the festival is to rediscover some of the wisdom of the ancient Nagas which lies buried in the form of songs, dances, stories, and legends. Indeed these priceless values project the fabulous pictures of human fear, aspirations, wars, achievements together with their ancient festivals, religion and Gods loving action in favour humans. He further added that the creation of such common festival may well become the most important chapter of the Naga history.

At the meeting held in this connection was moderated by Dr Woba James. Rev Zhabu Terhuja, Dr Akheto Sumi and Bhava Goswami were the chief guest and guests of honour respectively.

The Tangkhul students also staged a romantic folk play on the theme of the clash between two Naga tribes versus the love of the two lovers from both the tribes. A traditional attire show was also conducted in this connection.
