Nagarik Sangha for eviction drive all over

By Our Bureau

DIBRUGARH, Sept 22 - Announcing its unflinching support to the eviction drives against encroachers that were recently carried out at Kaziranga, the Dibrugarh Nagarik Sangha (DNS) appealed to the government to carry out similar eviction drives throughout Assam without any compromise.

In a meeting of the DNS on Wednesday to discuss the fallout of the recent eviction drives at Kaziranga, the Sangha noted with concern that a section of the people are trying to give the matter a communal colour and warned all anti-social elements to desist from such nefarious activities.

After discussing the scourge of encroachments all over the State, the Sangha members demanded that all encroachments should be dealt with severely. The Sangha also noted that in all the urban areas of Assam, including bigger cities like Guwahati, Dibrugarh and Silchar, encroachment of public places has become a major problem. The DNS wants the government to take immediate steps to rid Assams towns of all encroachments.

Meanwhile, members of the Sangha have also been apprised of the developments in the Sanghas move to have a proper land law in the State. DNS president and secretary, Jogendra Nath Borah and Ron Duarah, respectively, have been authorised by the meeting to liaise with revenue experts, advocates and bureaucrats for formulation of a proper land law in the State. The DNS was earlier assured by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal that his government would do all for a proper land legislation for the State.
