Nagarik Sangha calls for peace in Dibrugarh

By Bureau

DIBRUGARH, Aug 25 - Given the tense situation in the city and its suburbs in the past 36 hours, the Dibrugarh Nagarik Sangha (DNS) today appealed to all to maintain peace and tranquility in the society. DNS president Jogendra Nath Borah said that the murder of Babul Dutta (he was fatally injured on Thursday night by miscreants at Amolapatty here) is a barbaric act. He said he hopes that the three alleged culprits would soon be arrested and persecuted.

DNS secretary Dr Kumud Chandra Borah said it is a matter of concern that Dibrugarh has been overwhelmed by miscreants and anti-socials. He called on the citizens to be vigilant against trouble mongers.

Meanwhile, the citys police strength has been increased with additional police and CRPF deployment. The city and its suburbs have been divided into five police divisions, each under a DSP, for better policing. While the curfew orders would remain in force under the Borboruah police station area till early Wednesday morning, the city proper has no prohibitory restrictions. However, the citizens at large are yet to be fully tension free, said a local businessman. Today, life was normal here, with banks, businesses, educational institutions etc., all functioning normally.
