Nagaon take control

GUWAHATI, March 22 � Nagaon batsmen put up an encouraging show and placed their team in comfort zone scoring 223 for the loss of three wickets in reply to Charaideo�s first innings total of 287, on the second day of the three-day Elite Group Senior Inter District Cricket Tournament first semifinal.

Charaideo, resuming their first innings at the overnight total of 239 for six at the Barsapara stadium here today, were all out for 287. They lost the last four wickets in 23 overs and could add only 48 runs. However, Manashjyoti Gogoi, who was on 99 yesterday, completed his deserving century and was out for 106.

The Charaideo tail was snapped off by the Nagaon spinners as Ashok Saini took two and Amit Sinha one. The other Charaideo batsman Ripunjay Phukan was run out.

Nagaon began their innings with a positive mindset and added 55 runs for the opening wicket partnership. Later, an unbeaten fourth wicket partnership between Hokaito Zhimomi (72) and Amit Sinha (49) resulted 145 runs which turned to be vital in placing the team in the driver�s seat on the second day.

Charaideo pacer Mujibur Ali removed two scalps while spinner Sanjib Dutta took one.
