Nagaon Police rescues four trafficked girls

NAGAON, March 30 - In a major success, Nagaon Police rescued four girls who were allegedly forced into prostitution by traffickers in Haryana.

�We have also arrested a trafficker in this connection,� said Nagaon Superintendant of Police Shankar Raimedhi while talking to The Assam Tribune.

Raimedhi also said that a police team was rushed to Panipat in Haryana a few days back. All the rescued girls hail from Nagaon district. The arrested trafficker has been identified as one Rinky Kumar.

The rescue operation was led by Nagaon Police Sub-Inspector Eyan Sinha who was assisted by Haryana Police. The rescued girls would be produced before the local court tomorrow after which they would be brought to Assam.

Rishi Kant of Shakti Vahini, which is working for the victims of human trafficking in the country said, �Nagaon Police deserves credit. This is a disturbing trend. It is now being proven that girls from Assam are not only brought for marriage, but for sex trade as well.�
