Nagaland to construct foothill road

DIMAPUR, June 20 � The Nagaland Government has committed to construct a foothill road stretching from Tizit to Dimapur and onwards to Khema as a futuristic four-lane road.

The State Government made the commitment during a joint consultative meeting with the representatives of Ao Senden, the apex Ao Naga organisation, held in the office chamber of the Chief Secretary in Kohima recently.

The government also said it stands committed and agreed for immediate action to make the existing connectivity from Tizit to Dimapur functional at the earliest. In this regard, special action will be undertaken for the stretch via Bhandari to Zukheshi to be initiated and to complete the missing sections during the current financial year.

It also assured to further explore other short term/interim road and connectivity. The report of the technical teams, who are currently surveying the roads, shall be completed by June 2013. Works on such roads that are feasible shall commence during the current financial year.

It also agreed to provide security for transportation of essential commodities both from Mariani Road and Amguri Road to Mokokchung and thence to other parts of the State.
