By Correspondent

DIMAPUR, Sept 13 - Principal secretary, Nagaland School Education and State Council of Educational Research and Training, Menukhol John, on Wednesday asked the teachers of the State to raise the level of understanding of mathematical concepts among the students.

Noting that many students look upon Mathematics subject as tough or hard subject, John urged the teachers to demystify this notion. He was speaking at a three-day orientation programme of secondary Mathematics teachers which began at Administrative Training Institute, Kohima, on Wednesday.

He requested the teachers present to do their best in creating interest in the students about the study of mathematics by using the inputs and experience gained from the orientation programme.

According to the Annual education status report 2017, only 30.4 per cent of the students in the age group of 14 to 18 years in Nagaland can do simple division as against national average of 43.1 per cent.

The report also said only 37.7 per cent of the students in the State can do calculation and evaluation compared to the national average of 50 per cent.

The orientation programme is being conducted by the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) in collaboration with National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), New Delhi.

Emphasising on the importance of mathematics study, NBSE chairman Asano Sekhose called upon the teachers to give their best in ensuring that students get conceptual clarity and correct procedures of learning Mathematics.
