By A Correspondent

DIMAPUR, March 24 The Nagaland Government has constituted special verification committees (SVCs) in all the districts headed by deputy commissioners to conduct physical verification of all the bogus and absentee teachers.

The DCs will submit their reports to the government before April 30, according to a release issued by Commissioner and Secretary, School Education and SCERT Department, Mhathung Kithan on Wednesday.

The government has decided to set up the SVCs on the basis of the report of the SIT under Vigilance Commission and Anti Corruption on the bogus teachers in the State.

The SIT submitted its report to the government on bogus appointments in Education department on February 26. According to the report, 1,151 teachers have been identified as bogus teachers while 1,084 are categorised as absentees.

Over Rs 24 crore is drained out annually from the Nagaland exchequer for paying salaries to bogus and physically unavailable teachers, the SIT report revealed.

The bogus and absentee teachers will be required to personally present themselves before the SVC with two copies of passport photograph, educational certificates from HSLC onwards, original appointment order, transfer order to their present place of posting, if any, and any relevant document that may be required by the Committee, the release said.

The exercise has also been taken up to streamline the Education department to deliver quality education.

To facilitate smooth and timely completion of the exercise, the government has decided to release the salaries of the genuine category of teachers. It was also decided to release the salaries of doubtful category of teachers until further orders but the salaries of bogus and absentee teachers have been withheld with immediate effect, the release added.
