Nagaland police official suspended

DIMAPUR, May 17 � Initiating disciplinary proceedings in connection with Diphupar PS case No 0040/12 U/S 120/409, Sr SP, Wokha, S Sejongmong Sangtam has been placed under suspension with immediate effect.

The Diphupar PS case refers to the arrest of a Nagaland Police constable by Assam Rifles troops on April 20. The AR had reported that the constable, identified as one �Enyimi Chakhesang�, is an armourer attached with Police Central Store, Chumukedima and is believed to have been involved in siphoning off practice ammunition being allotted to Nagaland Police since the last seven years.

According to police sources, investigation into the case has established the involvement of Sangtam. The ammunition are reportedly from those allotted to the Nagaland Police for annual classification firing. A list of names for distribution of the money received from the sale of the ammunition is reported to have been recovered from the possession of the SP.

The investigation is being conducted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Additional SP Dimapur Wati Jamir and the Investigating Officer (IO) is OC Dimapur West Police J Konyak.
