Nagaland Minister�s son, 8 others held

JORHAT, Jan 17 � Son of the Nagaland Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) Minister along with eight others were detained by Deberapara Police near Naginijan in Jorhat district while transporting illegal liquor from Jorhat to Nagaland on Wednesday night. They were travelling in six vehicles of which four were fully loaded with the liquor bottles.

According to the police source, the approximate price of the seized liquor was around Rs 6 lakh.

Later the vehicles and the detained persons were taken to the Mariani Police Station and a case had been registered (case number 9/13 under sections 171 (C) and 188 of the IPC) at the Mariani PS.

When contacted, Jorhat SP told this correspondent that both police and excise department would conduct separate cases against them. Among the four vehicles loaded with illegal liquor, one Tata Aria (Registration Number NL � 10 - 7923), was bearing the name plate of Nagaland Minister of PHED, informed the in charge of Deberapara police outpost Protim Gogoi.

Police said that among the detained persons Tusi Longkumar is the son of the Nagaland Minister Dr Ngangshi K. Ao.

Later all the convicted persons were released on bail today.
