DIMAPUR, Sept 27 - Nagaland Government has made it mandatory for all government departments in the State to set up their own websites. The websites will be hosted by or migrated to Nagaland State Data Centre.

With a view to ensure up-to-date quantity and quality information and services in electronic form in the State, the Department of Information Technology & Communication had set up a State Data Centre and State Portal.

All departmental websites will have information such as annual report, RTI, activities & project status, budget outlay, employee details, photo gallery, feedback, downloads, contact details, etc.

The website of Nagaland CMs Office www.chiefministernagaland.in was launched in Kohima recently. The CMO website will contain events and functions attended by Chief Minister along with photos which can be accessed by any one. Important speeches of Chief Minister and details of all past CMs of Nagaland will also be available on the website.

Introduction of an interactive page is also in pipeline through which people can interact with CMs Office. The people will be able to express their views and opinions on major issues through the interactive page.

According to a CMO press release, during the launch of the CMO website, the Cabinet also discussed about e-governance to ensure transparency in the government departments. It was decided that departments would upload details and list of all government employees to check ghost/fake employees, check backdoor appointments, etc., as well as provide details of schemes and projects of the departments so that people could be made aware of the activities of the government.

To be in sync with the fast-changing world, Information Technology & Communication department will play a major role in disseminating information to the people so that they are not only made aware of governmental activities but also to have transparent and judicious governance.

The government has also encouraged all departments and their employees to use email, Internet, departmental websites and other means of electronic media while conducting business within the government and with the general public to gradually shift from functioning of government offices to paper-less environment. And to ensure a culture of openness, trust and integrity without compromising security of official information in governmental business, all websites under Government of Nagaland will be securely hosted by State Data Centre.

The Cabinet meeting approved setting up of an IT Cadre wherein IT Technical Officers will be deputed to various departments to assist them in IT-related matters. Every department will earmark three per cent of their budget allocation for IT-related activities and that fund is to be placed under the Head of Account of Department of IT &C.

Also to encourage investors, companies will be given five per cent preference for every competitive tender provided they have a registered office in Nagaland and engage two-third of its employees from indigenous locals.
