Nagaland bid to encroach on fresh areas

By Correspondent

DERGAON, Feb 24 Following the lackadaisical attitude of the State Government towards the border-related problems over the years, the Naga people are reportedly preparing to encroach upon fresh land in the disputed areas.

According to information available, the Nagaland Government as well as several other groups are taking advantage of the poor condition of the basic infrastructure in the areas. At present, the Naga people are trying to occupy land at No. 6 Kolajan, No. 1 Tarani, Indrapur, Garhbasti etc. The encroachers tried to convince the local people residing in the area that they will develop the place by arranging to set up the basic minimum facilities like hospital, training centre, electricity generation, drinking water supply, rubber plantation etc.

Talking to a few mediapersons on February 21, the leader of the encroachers, Dr Y Kikan revealed that the Christian missionaries and the Nagaland Government will construct a hospital and a vocational training centre in the areas which they tried to free from the possession of one Arun Gogoi and Bhuban Saikia.

On the other hand, the missionaries have resolved to construct a church in the area. A source revealed that the Nagaland Government will start some developmental schemes in the area as the Assam Government has failed to do so since independence.

It may be pertinent to mention here that villages like No. 6 Kolajan, Tarani etc. have no power connection, water supply, road communication etc. In the face of perennial neglect by the Assam Government over the years, its Nagaland counterpart has reportedly tried to undertake welfare works in its bid to covertly encroach on the aforementioned land.
