Nagaland archer awarded

DIMAPUR, July 18 � Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has announced a cash award of Rs 3 lakh to Naga ace archer Chekrovolu Swuro, who did India proud as a member of the three woman Indian archery squad that won silver medal at Turin, Italy, in the curve event of the Women�s World Championship, a Press release said today.

Her performance also made her eligible to receive the cash incentive of Rs 2 lakh which is given as part of the State Sports Awards to any Naga sportsperson who wins silver medal at any world championship/world cup of a recognised Olympic event.

Chekrovolu met the Chief Minister, who is the president of the Nagaland Olympic Associaion, yeterday and presented her medal to him. Nagaland Speaker Kiyanilie Peseyie and other officials of the Nagaland Olympic Associaion were also in attendance during the presentaion at the Chief Minister�s official bungalow.

Chekrovolu is scheduled to leave for the United States in a few days time to represent the country in another event.
