Naga peace talks at Kohima tomorrow

By The Assam Tribune

KOHIMA, May 30 The next round of peace parleys between the Centres representatives and NSCN(I-M)leaders will be held here on Tuesday against the backdrop of Manipur governments opposition to the proposed visit of Naga leader Th Muivah to the state, reports PTI.

Official sources said Centres interlocutor for Naga peace talks R S Pandey, accompanied by two Home Ministry officials, would arrive here tomorrow to hold parleys with NSCN(I-M) leaders.

Tuesdays peace parleys will be third round of formal talks after appointment of Pandey, a former Nagaland chief secretary, to carry forward the dialogue which was revived in January after a virtual year-long deadlock.

So far, over 60 rounds of talks have been held since the ceasefire between the two parties in 1997 in New Delhi and abroad, but no breakthrough could be achieved.

A senior NSCN (I-M) functionary told reporters last week that the outfit had proposed to the Centre to hold next round of peace talks in Naga soils and the latter agreed to the request.
