DIMAPUR, Sept 9 - Expressing shock over the attempted rape and murder of one of its members on August 22, the Naga Mothers Association (NMA) has appealed to the Nagaland Government to immediately set up fast track courts in every district to address the alarming rise of violence against women in the State.
In a release, NMA said the sexual offenders and murderers remain largely unpunished because of the slow legal system in disposing cases thereby encouraging other criminals to commit horrifying offences without any hesitation.
Demanding strong measures to prevent any recurrence of such crimes, the NMA said the August 22 incident has once again reminded how unsafe and dangerous it is for women to venture out even in �our own land�. It also demanded maximum punishment to the perpetrators of such beastly acts, saying so long as such culprits roam around our land, the women are not safe whether at home or at workplace.
The NMA further urged the fathers, brothers, husbands and sons to respect women who give birth and nurture them. While stating that it is against any form of violence against women, the NMA urged every mother to be vigilant and prayerfully stand together to free �our land� from all forms of evil activities. It also conveyed sympathy to the victim and prayed that the Almighty God heal the wounds and for speedy recovery of the victim.
Meanwhile, the Nagaland Peace Centre (NPC) Kohima has expressed gratefulness to Naga Mothers� Association for their valiant efforts in meeting the leaders of NSCN-K at Pangsha on August 31.
In a release, NPC Kohima chairman N Theyo said the NPC has also appreciated the willingness of the NSCN-K leaders for meeting the delegation with an objective for resumption of ceasefire agreement with the Government of India.
