IMPHAL, Dec 23 - The Army killed a Naga underground cadre in a reported encounter in Khoupum area of Tamenglong district of Manipur on Wednesday morning.
Sources said the gun battle occurred at Luwangkhulen Part-I under Khoupum police station at about 10.30 am today between personnel of 8 Gorkha Rifles and a team of Naga underground outfit.
Following reports that a meeting of the outfit was being arranged in Luwangkhulen Part-I, the 8 GR team carried out an operation in the area. The GR team came under fire from the armed cadres as it reached the area. A gun battle ensued between the two sides, which lasted about 40 minutes.
Later, the GR team called in additional forces from the Assam Rifles and conducted a search in the area during which the body of the slain cadre was recovered.
