IMPHAL, Aug 5 - The United Naga Council (UNC) on behalf of the Naga people of the present state of Manipur welcomes the �historic� Naga Peace Accord signed between the Government of India and the National Socialist Council of Nagalim on August 3 in New Delhi.

According to the UNC, the signing of the peace accord has brought about the end of decades of armed conflict in Naga areas. �The Peace Accord was the fruits of unstinted courage and patience of the Nagas on one hand and the wisdom and political will of the Prime Minister of India, Shri. Narendra Modi and his government on the other,� it stated.

�Therefore, the UNC extends with deepest appreciation, heartiest gratitude to the Prime Minister of India and Chairman, Mr Isaac Chisi Swu and Mr Thuingaleng Muivah, Chief Negotiator, General Secretary of the NSCN/GPRN.
