Nabam Tuki sworn in as Arunachal CM

ITANAGAR, Nov 1 � Nabam Tuki was today sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, ending the political impasse over the demand for leadership change in the sensitive border State. He became the first Chief Minister fromNyishi community.

The 47-year-old was administered the oath of office and secrecy by the Governor Gen (retd) JJ Singh at the crowded Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan here after the AICC president Sonia Gandhi nominated him as the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader, replacing Jarbom Gamlin.

AICC observers - Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, former DoNER Minister Bijoy Krishna Handique and CWC member and in-charge of Arunachal, Dr (Col) Dhaniram Shandil, Jarbom Gamlin, former Chief Minister Gegong Apang, party MPs Takam Sanjoy and Ninong Ering and MLAs were present at the swearing-in ceremony.

Tuki told reporters that his priority was to maintain peace and communal harmony for speedy development of the State by following the �rule of law of the land�.

Gamlin said, �We shall work hand in hand and try to carry out all development activities.�

Gamlin, who had taken over the State on May 5 after his predecessor Dorjee Khandu�s demise in a tragic chopper crash on April 30 this year, resigned yesterday to pave the way for party high command to decide on the leadership issue, who was brewing in the State since then.

On Monday, 40 of the 42 Congress legislators, in a CLP meeting signed a one-point resolution authorizing the AICC president Sonia Gandhi to nominate the new CLP leader in the State.

The change in leadership was demanded by a majority of Congress legislators led by the APCC chief Tuki, accusing Gamlin of adopting �authoritarian rule� and failing to control the �deteriorating� law and order situation in the State.
