Nabajyoti outplay Town to win T20 title

By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, Feb 15 With a convincing six-wicket victory against Gauhati Town Club, Nabajyoti Club emerged champions in the Dhireswar Kalita Trophy T-20 Cricket Championship organised by the Bud Cricket Club.

In a totally one-sided affair at the Nehru Stadium here today, Town Club batsmen miserably failed to handle the Nabajyoti bowlers as barring Amzad Ali (24) and Deep Bora (22), others could not hit form. They were restricted to 100 in 20 overs as Bhakarjyoti Barman and Bikash Chetri checked their shots with tremendous turning and perfect length. While, Bhaskar took three, Bikash took two scalps.

Chasing the paltry target, the Nabajyoti batsmen did not have to face any tight situation despite losing their prolific scorer Nishanta Bordoloi early as they scored 103 for the loss of four wickets in 13.4 overs. Arminder Singh and Binayak Uthappa contributed 37 and 21 respectively.

Bhaskarjyoti of Nabajyoti was adjudged man-of-the-match while his teammates Mrigen Talukdar, Nishanta Bordoloi and Abhijit Singha Roy received the best batsman, man-of-the-series and best fielder awards respectively. Sekharjyoyi Barman of GTC got the best bowler award.

In the closing function, Assam Cricket Association secretary Bikash Baruah, former SP Paresh Bordoloi, member of donors family Dibyajyoti Kalita, Director of Information Dinesh Deka, ACA official Bhakti Medhi were present along with a host of sportspersons.

Brief scores: Town 100/8 (Amzad Ali 24, Deep Bora 22, Bhaskarjyoti Barman 3/16, Bikash Chetri 2/26). Nabajyoti 103/4 (Arminder 37, Binayak Uthapa 21, Sekharjyoti Barman 2/17).
