Nabajyoti A topple Bud for title

GUWAHATI, Jan 31 � Parvez Aziz finally found his batting form and led his team Nabajyoti Club A team to a convincing 3-wicket victory against Bud Cricket Club A team in the final of the Bud Challenge Jugal Kishore Newatia Trophy Cricket Championship.

In the summit clash at the Nehru Stadium here today, opting to bat first, host Bud Cricket Club gathered a challenging total of 191 for four in 40 overs. Veteran Subhadeep Ghose was their top run-getter with 48-ball 59 while Hokaito Zhimomi and Amit Sinha added 40 each.

But the total was not enough as Parvez almost single-handedly dragged Nabajyoti to the victory point. Abhijit Sinha Roy (28) provided him able support at the middle.

Parvez was declared man-of-the-match while Tarjinder Singh of Bud A received the man-of-the-tournament award.

Sib Sankar Roy and Parvez Aziz (both Nabajyoti A) were picked as best batsman and best bowler of the tournament respectively. Subhadeep Ghose and Kunal Saikia (both Bud A) were declared as best fielder and best wicket-keeper of the meet.

Brief scores: Bud A 191/4 (Subhadeep Ghose 59, Hokaito Zhimomi 40, Amit Sinha 40, Kunal Saikia 21, Sujay Tarafdar 2/22, Parvez Aziz 2/29). Nabajyoti A 195/7 (Parvez Aziz 61, Abhijit Sinha Roy 28, Sarupam Purkayastha 2.34, Bikram Chetry 2/36).
