MZP observes Black Day in Mizoram

By Correspondent

AIZAWL, Jan 12 - Mizo Zirlai Pawl, Mizorams apex students body, today joined their counterparts across the Northeastern States in observing Black Day to protest the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016.

In Aizawl, the Black Day observance commenced at the MZP headquarters, and black flags were displayed in important locations in the city.

MZP president L Ramdinliana Renthlei said it is unfortunate that North East Students Organisation had to call for Black Day to protest police atrocities against innocent students in the North East during the NESO-sponsored NE-wide shutdown on January 8. He alleged that the students suffered the most in BJP-ruled States.

In accordance with the NESOs decision, we will continue to protest against the CAB, and we appeal for the wholehearted support of the people of Mizoram, Renthlei said.

It also expressed solidarity with NESOs condemnation of the BJP Governments attempts to push through the CAB in Parliament.

MZPs representative to NESO Ricky Lalbiakmawia said the MZP also condemned the Tripura Police as well as the BJP Government in Tripura for opening fire on protestors and injuring five student activists, and demands that their treatment costs are paid for by the State Government.

The MZP also condemns the use of tear gas and rubber bullets against protestors in Manipur, he said.
