Muslims protest against cow meat shops

By A Correspondent

NAGAON, June 13 - Around 100 people from the Muslim community staged a strong protest on Saturday against the sale of cow meat in Nagaon Borbazaar area. The protesters said that some outlets of cow meat in the market posed a big threat to public health.

The cow meat sellers were allegedly throwing the waste into the drains, following which the rotten smell was posing a health hazard for customers and sellers of the market.

The protesters alleged that the Nagaon Municipal Board has done nothing to solve the problem despite repeated reminders. A few months ago, they had demanded that the cow meat outlets be shifted from Borbazaar, and had submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through the Nagaon Deputy Commissioner. In response, the government directed officials of the district administration as well as the municipal board to immediately to shift the outlets. But nothing has been done, and the cow meat sellers were still doing business in the market.
