Multi-layer security for Rahul Gandhi�s rally

GUWAHATI, Feb 23 � A multi-layer security blanket would be thrown in and around the city in view of Congress MP and party vice president Rahul Gandhi�s rally in the Veterinary playground at Khanapara here on February 25.

A special vehicular traffic management map would also be enforced on the day of the rally which is expected to begin around 1:30 pm.

Senior Superintendent of Police (City) Anand Prakash Tiwari, while briefing the mediapersons on the action plan this evening, said that 48 close circuit television cameras would be installed in and around the venue along with eight LCD screens.

In total, ten additional companies of armed personnel would be deployed along with senior officers. The security would be monitored by two officers of the rank of Superintendant of Police and four Additional SPs.

Medical teams and fire tenders would also be stationed in the venue right from the morning hours.

�We want the people to cooperate with us. No bag or any objectionable items would be allowed inside the venue. In all, there will be ten entry points with three checking windows each,� he informed.

Tiwari also stated that for the indoor meeting of the Congress party and also for the function of the Don Bosco University, separate security mechanisms have been put in place. The SPG team is expected to arrive anytime tomorrow.

On the vehicular traffic arrangement, the City SSP said nearly 2,600 buses are expected from across the State and separate parking places have been designated for vehicles coming from lower and upper Assam.

Traffic diversion will also take place to facilitate smooth movement of vehicular traffic and the crowd.
